The Bramble

The Bramble Cocktail was created by famous english bartender Richard “Dick” Bradsell in the mid 1980s. This cocktail is very popular in England. This modern cocktail has strong classic base. The original version include gin (preferable plymouth), lemon juice, sugar syrup and creme de mure (blackberry liqueur).

The Bramble

45 ml Plymouth gin
20 ml fresh lemon juice
15 ml simple syrup
20 ml creme de mure (blackberry liqueur)
Build gin, juice and syrup over crushed ice in a olf-fashioned glass. Stir, the pour over liqueur. Garnish with a lemon slice and two raspberries.

The Bramble Cocktail is very interesting so sweet but refreshing drink with great blackberry and gin palate. It has very smooth taste. It is admirable cocktail.

I try the Bramble Cocktail with London dry gin too. This version of the Bramble Cocktail has bright and a bit strong taste with very pleasant berry and herbal palate.

Я пару месяцев назад делал, но так и не стал постить.
Использовал малиновый ликер, решил, что такая деривация не для опубликования. Но на вкус очень хорошо, сладко-терпко.
Ежевичный ликер наверняка делают из садовой (промышленной) ежевики, которая на вкус и в свежем виде мало от малины отличается, но все же…
Подожду плимута и ежевичного ликера. А там и натуральная ежевика в лесу вырастет. Хочется еще и с ромом в дайкири ее скрестить )

Честно говоря, DK Blackberry (хоть я и не люблю DK, но этот ликер мне понравился) имеет очень “ежевичный” вкус, который конечно же похож на малину, но и в то же время непохож 🙂 … на сироп… Ему (как по мне, так, теоретически) не хватает до Creme de mur (коего я не видел никогда) вязкости и вполне возможно сладости. Мне кажется “настоящий” Bramble должен быть молодым чуть дольше – т.е. крем де мур (возможно) будет садится несколько дольше (из-за вязкости) и коктейль будет подольше быть эдаким “мраморным”, внешний вид очень эффектный в первую минуту подачи.
Различие между плимутом и лондонским сухим ощутимо (весьма!) только в первые минуты, после подтаивания льда разницы почти нет – кисло-сладкий коктейль с эдаким “четким” ягодно-джиновым вкусом.

Я видел французский крем де мюр, в принципе, не очень дорого, просто этот ликер – не первая необходимость )
Потом все-таки куплю.
Но я не наливал весь ликер сверху. Внешний вид не так важен, как вкус ) Я делал короткий шейк и уже в стакан подачи выливал сверху чайную ложку ликера.
Однажды забыл сахарный сироп – и это было тоже вкусно.
Джин очень хорошо пересекается с малиной. Даже не с малиной, а с малиновой косточкой (MB Creme de framboise)

The bramble is the best Gin for me. I had the london dry gin for the party on the last sunday. The colleques who participated enjoyed the gin.

I worked with Dick at Detroit Bar in Covent Garden, London in 95-96. The Bramble was a huge hit then. People loved it. And they loved Dick Bradsell. A great party, it was.

Несмотря на то, что вы говорите о технике билд как об оригинальной, я видел ролик, где сам Дик готовит Брамбл именно шейком и затем “ликёрным” билдом.
Как раз тем методом, который Вы считаете логичным 🙂

The bramble is a modern classic and a simple gin cocktail with a fruity flair. The story goes that it was created in 1984 by U.K. bartender Dick Bradsell and it has been enjoyed by many drinkers ever since. It’s also a drink that is open to interpretation, so it’s okay if you don’t have the exact ingredients in the recipe.

The featured ingredient of this enhanced gin sour is the crème de mûre, a sweet blackberry liqueur. Though it is not a common bar ingredient, it is nice to have around for drinks such as this. If you have access to a good crop of blackberries, you might even try to make your own. It’s as easy as adding the berries to a standard homemade liqueur recipe.

While the Bramble is a fantastic cocktail, it is completely different than the drink known as the Bramble Bar, which has a scotch base. Both make fantastic summertime drinks, and they’re quite nice to serve together, so both your whiskey and gin loving guests are satisfied.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • 3/4 ounce lime juice (fresh)
  • 3/4 ounce simple syrup
  • 3/4 ounce crème de mûre
  • Garnish: lime wheel
  • Garnish: 2 raspberries

Steps to Make It

Gather the ingredients.

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, pour the gin, lime juice, and simple syrup.

Drizzle the cremé de mûre on top and garnish with a lime slice and two raspberries.

Serve and enjoy!

  • The bramble may have a short history, but that doesn’t mean that it hasn’t been adapted many times. Some recipes will suggest a London dry gin while others opt for the fruitier Plymouth Gin. Explore your options; you may even want to pour Brockmans Gin, which includes blackberries and blueberries with the botanicals.
  • You will also find recipes that use either lemon or lime juice. If you do switch to lemon juice, use a lemon wheel for the garnish.

Recipe Variations

Admittedly, crème de mûre is not the easiest liqueur to find, though it is not impossible. If you’re not having any luck, there are a couple of substitutes:

  • Blackberry Brandy: Many fruit-flavored brandies made today have some amount of sugar added to them, which makes them more of a liqueur than a true brandy. That is quite convenient because it makes blackberry brandy a viable substitution for the bramble’s crème de mûre.
  • Black Raspberry Liqueur: Blackberries and black raspberries have a very similar flavor, as do the liqueurs made from the fruits. This means that you can get away with using a black raspberry liqueur like the popular Chambord when making the bramble.

How Strong Is a Bramble Cocktail?

The bramble is neither the strongest nor the weakest cocktail you can mix up. Its average alcohol content is 17 percent ABV (34 proof), so it’s just a little stronger than a gin and tonic.
